It’s the first day of September, and that can only mean one thing: summer is gone, spooky season is officially underway, and the countdown is on to Halloween. That also makes now the perfect time to get excited about the re-release of a stop-motion beauty from the master of gothic charm himself, Tim Burton. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, his gloomy fantasy romance Corpse Bride is officially heading back to cinemas this autumn, with a stunning 4K restoration. Get a taster by watching the exclusive recent trailer below.
Corpse Bride follows the shy Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp), who is about to enter into a marriage with stranger Victoria (Emily Watson), as arranged by their totally-dissimilar sets of parents. But when Victor runs away to the forest to practise his lines for the ceremony, he slips the ring over what turns out to be the skeletal finger of the Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter), marrying her instead. From there, he must decide what to do about his recent undead wife – and try to figure out where his heart truly lies.
Burton’s first venture back into the world of stop-motion after writing and producing the classic Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride carries all the markers of his signature style – beautifully-realised supernatural worlds, incredibly detailed animation, and a wacky mix of scares and comedy. With this re-release, you can experience this twisted fairytale, with a sweet love story at its heart on the big-screen once again. Check out the recent poster below.
Prepare for dancing skeletons aplenty. Corpse Bride returns to cinemas – courtesy of Park Circus – across the UK, Ireland, and select international territories from 10 October.
