Today, fans are finally able to give Chuck Krantz the beefy thank you that he’s long deserved, as the official trailer for Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck has finally been released. Following a first look at CinemaCon in Las Vegas just two weeks ago, the rest of the world can now feast their eyes on the latest offering to come from famed filmmaker Flanagan and legendary genre author Stephen King. The best part about The Life of Chuck is that it diverges from the typical fare that audiences have seen in the past from both Flannigan and King, largely breaking out of the horror mold and taking audiences on an existential journey to rediscover the wonders of life alongside a cast led by Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) and Karen Gillan (Oculus).
As his 40th birthday nears, Hiddleston’s Chuck Krantz enters the final days of his life thanks to a brain tumor that will spell out his demise. Broken into three parts, the film follows Chuck’s life but goes backwards, starting with his last days of living and taking audiences back in time to his childhood. Along the way, Chuck’s path will cross with a multitude of different characters and — whether he realizes it or not — he will leave long-lasting marks on many of them.
If there’s one thing you can expect from a Flanagan-helmed production, it’s a myriad of familiar faces. The filmmaker loves reuniting with previous collaborators, and The Life of Chuck will be no different. While Ejiofor and Hiddleston are modern to the Flanafam, Gillan previously worked alongside the director on Oculus. Other returning performers include Mark Hamill (The Fall of the House of Usher), Carl Lumbly (Doctor Sleep), Samantha Sloyan (The Fall of the House of Usher), Kate Siegel (Midnight Mass), Rahul Kohli (The Haunting of Hill House), Jacob Tremblay (Doctor Sleep), and more. Other newbies include Mia Sara (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Matthew Lillard (Scream), Harvey Guillén (What We Do In the Shadows), and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation).
‘The Life of Chuck’ Is Already a Fan-Favorite
Last fall, the page-to-screen adaptation celebrated its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it quickly became the event’s stand-out screening. After taking home the highly-coveted and fought-over People’s Choice Award, the movie also hit a high note with critics, landing an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The title eventually went to Neon for distribution and will undoubtedly continue the impressive streak of success the company has enjoyed over the last year with other similar releases, including Longlegs, The Monkey, and Anora.
Feast your eyes on the debut trailer for The Life of Chuck above and witness its full glory on the huge screen on June 6.
