The world premieres of Claire Denis’ The Fence and Argentinian director Pablo Trapero’s English-language debut & Sons have been added to Special Presentations at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, September 4-14), bringing the total count to 291 including 209 novel features and six Classics.
The Fence stars Matt Dillon and Isaach de Bankolé and takes place over the course of one night at a white-run construction site in Africa where the site foreman hides the truth surrounding a worker’s death. The film is based on Bernard-Marie Koltes’ play Black Battles With Dogs.
Bill Nighy, George McKay, Johnny Flynn, and Noah Jupe star in & Sons, a drama about a writer who tries to reconnect with his male progeny. Sarah Polley and Trapero co-adapted the screenplay from David Gilbert’s novel. Trapero’s credits include The Clan, Carancho, and White Elephant.
TIFF’s last official programme announcement ahead of the 50th anniversary edition announced North American premieres for Venice-bound No Other Choice from Park Chan-wook, The Voice Of Hind Rajab from Kaouther Ben Hania, The Wizard Of The Kremlin from Olivier Assayas, and Dog 51 from Cédric Jiménez, which screens out of competition and is the closing film.
