Universal is releasing the two biggest fresh titles this weekend as both Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie and Black Phone 2 launch into UK and Ireland cinemas.
Gabby’s Dollhouse leads the way in 605 locations. The family-friendly feature is based on the animated Netflix series about a newborn girl and her feline friends. The live-action film counts Gloria Estefan and Kristen Wiig among the cast.
Universal is also opening horror sequel Black Phone 2 in 560 cinemas. Ethan Hawke returns as the masked killer who begins stalking the sister of a previous victim. The original opened in the summer of 2022 with £921,915 (£1.4m including previews).
Paramount is releasing comedy drama Roofman in 540 sites. Derek Cianfrance’s film, starring Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst, is based on the true story of a criminal who escapes prison and hides out in a toy store.
Lionsgate is opening US comedy Good Fortune in 462 locations. Aziz Ansari stars in his directorial debut alongside Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves in a story about an incompetent angel who switches the lives of a gig worker and a wealthy venture capitalist.
Luca Guadagnino’s After The Hunt launches in 345 venues via Sony. Andrew Garfield, Julia Roberts and Ayo Ediberi star in the social drama about a college professor who finds herself caught in the middle when her star pupil accuses her colleague of sexual assault.
In re-releases, Park Circus has 2005 supernatural action Constantine in 274 sites while Curzon is screening 1975 classic One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest in 25 sites and Elysian Film Group has a 4K restoration of the 1997 anime Princess Mononoke in 45 sites.
In event cinema, Trafalgar Releasing has La Sonnambula – Met Opera 2025 out in 100 venues from Saturday (October 18).
Cannes award-winning drama Souleymane’s Story is out 23 cinemas via Conic Film. The French film premiered in Un Certain Regard in 2024 where it picked up the jury prize for director Boris Lojkine and best actor for Abou Sangare.
Miracle Comms and Dazzler are rolling out UK comedy Sunlight, written and directed by comedian Nina Conti in her directorial debut.
Netflix is releasing Frankenstein and A Ballad Of A Small Player in cinemas for an awards-qualifying run.
