The A24 production sees Dakota Johnson as a New York City matchmaker who finds herself embroiled in a love triangle between her perfect match and ex-boyfriend. Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans star alongside Johnson.
Song’s Oscar-nominated Past Lives (2023), which premiered at Sundance, opened to £359,973 and grossed a total of £3.1m.
Universal is starting action comedy Nobody 2, starring Bob Odenkirk as ageing dad Hutch Mansell, a former assassin who is once again pulled back into his tumultuous past. Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto directs. First film Nobody opened to £376,067, grossing a total of £1.4m in 2021.
Entertainment Film Distributors starts Michael Shanks’ body horror Together in 525 sites. Real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie star as a duo whose long-term issues are exacerbated by a malevolent, unnatural force. The film premiered at Sundance this year and played Locarno this month.
Modern Films opens Love, part of Dag Johan Haugerud’s Dreams/Love/Sex triumvirate, in 23 locations. The film focuses on a doctor and a nurse who meet on a ferry and explore societal norms of intimacy.
Love ran in competition at Venice in 2024, after Dreams won the Berlinale Golden Bear award the same year. The latter opened on August 4 and has started with £6,866, with Sex set to screen later this month.
Yash Raj Films starts Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 in 298 sites, with Hrithik Roshan returning as impassable villain Agent Kabir, opposite recent adversary, deadly operative Agent Vikram. War started on £145,408 and grossed £723,039 total in 2019.
Victoria Mapplebeck’s Motherboard opens in 16 sites via Tull Stories. The documentary is a two-decade-long project chronicling the Bafta-winning director’s journey through single motherhood after falling pregnant at 38.

The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) is holding an exclusive screening of Catarina Ruivo’s My Grandmother Trelotótó, documenting her slow grandmother’s life through uncovered letters. Ruivo’s André Valente played in competition at Locarno in 2004.
Miracle Comms launches Michel Fessler’s live-action Bambi: A Tale Of Life In The Woods in 136 cinemas, retelling the story of the orphaned fawn. Fessler’s previous credits include the screenplay for Luc Jacquet’s Oscar-winning documentary March Of The Penguins.
Kaleidoscope Entertainment is distributing animation Super Charlie, based on Camilla Lackberg’s children’s book series of the same name. The film follows a baby born with superpowers and his 10-year-old brother, who has always dreamed of fighting crime. Swedish filmmaker Jon Holmberg (Sune vs. Sune) writes and directs.
Netflix opens Benjamin Caron’s Night Always Comes this weekend. It stars Vanessa Kirby as Lynette, a grifter and fierce family protector who is forced to confront her violent past over the course of one night.
In a busy weekend for re-releases, Jim Jarmusch’s 1999 Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai returns to 29 cinemas via Park Circus, having held five Picturehouse venue previews last week. Oscar winner Forest Whitaker stars as mafia samurai hit man Ghost Dog, who finds himself targeted by the mob.
Curzon is re-releasing Brazilian director Walter Salles’ 1998 drama Central Station in 23 sites. Salles’ I’m Still Here won the Oscar this year for best international feature film.
Japanese fantasy animations make a return this week with a 4K restoration of Oscar-winning Hayao Miyazaki Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke through Elysian Film Distribution; and Mamoru Hosoda’s Wolf Children through Anime Ltd.
Key holdovers this weekend include Warner Bros’ Weapons plus Disney’s Freakier Friday and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
