The Conjuring: Last Rites is the widest opener in UK and Ireland cinemas this weekend as the Warner Bros horror launches in 620 sites.
It is the biggest opening in the paranormal series, ahead of 2016’s The Conjuring 2 which opened in 504 sites. That title launched with £2.8m and was followed by The Devil Made Me Do It in 2021 (£1.9m debut from 475 sites). The first film opened in 2013 with £2.2m from 371 venues.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return for Last Rites as the paranormal investigators travel to Pennsylvania to vanquish a demon from a family’s home. It is directed by Michael Chaves who also directed The Devil Made Me Do It.
Also out this weekend is Ethan Coen’s Honey, Don’t! in 388 locations via Universal Pictures. Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans star in the crime comedy about a small-town private investigator who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church. Qualley and Coen previously teamed up on 2024’s Drive-Away Dolls which opened on £264,132 from 533 cinemas.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is launching queer drama On Swift Horses in 203 venues. The Toronto 2024 premiere features a starry cast including Jacob Elordi, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Will Poulter and is directed by Daniel Minahan.
Altitude Films is opening two films this weekend: Sean Ellis’ boxing thriller The Cut, starring Orlando Bloom, Caitriona Balfe and John Turturro, about a retired boxer who embarks on an illegal weight loss programme as he returns to the ring one last time. The film premiered a year ago at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Altitude also has Brendan Canty’s coming-of-age drama Christy which first premiered at the 2025 Berlinale and went on to win the best Irish film prize at Galway Film Fleadh.
Jasmin Gordon’s The Courageous opens in 14 locations via MetFilm. The family drama also debuted at Toronto last year and went on to play the Rome and Zurich film festivals, winning the critics’ award at the latter
MetFilm also has also has Ukrainian-set documentary Sanatorium in five sites in the UK while Eclipse Pictures has it in six sites in Ireland. The film, about a run-down health resort treating war victims, is Ireland’s entry for best international feature at the Oscars.
Bulldog Distribution is rolling out Joseph Millson’s grief drama Signs Of Life in four cinemas.
In Indian cinema, Dreamz Entertainment is launching female-led action title Ghaati while Bakrania Media has franchise film Baaghi 4 and crime drama Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder. Historical thriller The Bengal Files is out via Zee International.
Further releases include psychological thriller Row via Kaleidoscope Entertainment; event release Inter Alia – NT Live 2025 via National Theatre and dim comedy Paul & Paulette Take A Bath via Conic Film.
Park Circus is releasing Jumangi in 413 cinemas for its 30th anniversary.
Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch comedy The Roses is the key holdover title.
