Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) is returning to his villain era in the debut trailer for MGM+’s upcoming series, Robin Hood. Today, the platform has dropped the official first look at the highly-anticipated series that will put a recent spin on the legendary tale. With a cast that features Jack Patten (War Machine) in the titular role as the vigilante who steals from the affluent and gives to the needy, as well as Gladiator and Nobody’s Connie Nielsen as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, the project is bound to be a massive success for the streamer when it celebrates its two-episode premiere in just over two months on Sunday, November 2.
The Robin Hood teaser is just that — a taste of what’s to come when the full series arrives later this fall. Covering just the very basics of the production’s plot, a voiceover informs audiences that Bean’s Sheriff of Nottingham is as nefarious as ever, plotting and scheming to keep those living in poverty trapped in the cycle forever. Meanwhile, we’re given a brief glimpse at Patten’s Rob, who we know will be introduced as a Saxon forester’s son. In the teaser, a cloaked Rob can be seen taking on the powers that be while on a mission to take back what is rightfully his and provide a better life for others in a similar position.
In addition to the leading performances of Bean, Patten, and Nielsen, the ensemble will also include the talents of Lauren McQueen (The Wasting) as Marian, Lydia Peckham (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) as Priscilla of Nottingham and Steven Waddington (The Reckoning) as the Earl of Huntingdon. In past iterations of the classic tale of Robin Hood, Marian — the character played by McQueen — has largely been seen as the titular character’s lover, but it sounds like she’ll be reimagined for the MGM+ version as a force to be reckoned with all on her own as she too will take on the evils of greed that wish to rule.
Sean Bean Is on Track for More Doom
Thanks to his performances in titles like The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Game of Thrones, Bean has made a name for himself as playing a good guy who always meets the wrong end of an axe — or arrow. The same can be said from the first teaser for Robin Hood, as it appears that Bean’s Sheriff will be directly in the vigilante’s crosshairs — although, this time, it certainly looks like he deserves it.
