Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski and composer Carter Burwell are among industry names newly elected to the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Kujawski joins the 2025-2026 board representing the Academy’s executive branch and Burwell joins from the music branch. Also elected to the board for the first time are Gigi Williams, from the makeup artists and hairstylists branch, and Andrew Roberts, from the visual effects branch.
The ten incumbent governors re-elected to the board include Marlee Matlin (actors branch), Jason Reitman (directors branch) and Jason Blum (producers branch).
The three directors returning to the board after a hiatus are Isis Mussenden (costume designers branch), Christina Kounelias (marketing and public relations branch) and Larry Karaszewski, (writers branch).
Among other returning governors are Pam Abdy, David Dinerstein, Ava DuVernay, Lynette Howell Taylor and Hannah Minghella.
New Academy governors-at-large will be elected later this month.The Academy has 19 branches, each represented by three governors, except for the animation branch, represented by two, and the brief films and production and technology branches, represented by one governor each.
The board of governors is charged with setting the Academy’s strategic vision, preserving its financial health and assuring the fulfillment of its mission.
