EXCLUSIVE: Hind Meddeb’s civil war documentary Sudan, Remember Us has been picked up for UK-Ireland theatrical distribution by T A P E Collective, with a release date set for June 27.

The film was acquired from Totem Films and world premiered at Venice in the Giornate delgli Autori sidebar, as well as screening at Toronto.

French-Tunisian-Moroccan journalist-turned-filmmaker Meddeb travelled to Sudan in 2019 to film a sit-in protest, where she met a group of adolescent activists whom she would continue to film over the course of four years, demanding reform after decades of military dictatorship. It explores the power of hope, poetry and song against the backdrop of the war.

The France-Tunisia co-production is produced by Abel Nahmias of Paris-based Echo Films, Michel Zana and Alice Ormières of Paris-based Blue Train Films, and Tao Guiga of Tunisia’s My Way.

It marks the fourth feature by French-Tunisian-Moroccan journalist-turned-filmmaker Meddeb after Electro Chaabi, Tunisia Clash and Paris Stalingrad.

T A P E Collective distributes films with a focus on representation, identity and heritage, recently acquiring In the Nguyen Kitchen by Stéphane Ly-Cuong from Party Sales.

“From the moment I watched the film at TIFF in 2024, I could see how Sudan, Remember Us so closely aligned with T A P E’s mission of using art and film to amplify the call to action. The community rallying together through poetry and music is captured beautifully by Hind Meddeb, and we’re thrilled to be working closely with her on bringing the film to the UK and Ireland,” said Isra Al Kassi, T A P E co-founder and co-director.
