“We wanted everything to feel like it has hand-painted.” Universal has debuted a featurette for the making of DreamWorks Animation next movie Dog Man – it’s hitting theaters at the end of January in few weeks. From DWA—creators of the beloved blockbuster franchises Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, and The Boss Baby—comes the canine-crime-fighting film adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s NY Times bestselling literary phenomenon: Dog Man. Half dog and half man, he is sworn to protect and serve as he doggedly pursues the feline supervillain Petey the Cat. When Lil Petey falls into the clutches of a common enemy, Dog Man and Petey reluctantly join forces in an action-packed race against time to rescue the juvenile kitten. In the process, they discover the power of family (and kittens!) to bring even the most hostile foes together. Featuring the voices of Pete Davidson, Lil Rel Howery, Isla Fisher, Poppy Liu, Stephen Root, Billy Boyd, and Ricky Gervais. This amusing featurette includes footage from that first trailer with actors Lil Rel Howery, Isla Fisher, and Pete Davidson discussing their characters and making this movie. 🐕 Have fun.

“Part dog, part man, all hero.” When a faithful police dog and his human police officer owner are injured together on the job, a harebrained but life-saving surgery fuses the two of them together and Dog Man is born. Dog Man is sworn to protect and serve—and fetch, sit and roll over. As Dog Man embraces his modern identity and strives to impress his Chief (voiced by Lil Rel Howery), he must stop the pretty evil plots of feline supervillain Petey the Cat (Pete Davidson). Petey’s latest plan is to clone himself, creating the kitten Lil Petey, to double his ability to do crime stuff. Things get complicated, though, when Lil Petey forges an unexpected bond with Dog Man. When Lil Petey falls into the clutches of a common enemy, Dog Man & Petey reluctantly join forces in an action-packed race against time to rescue the juvenile kitten from evil. In the process, they discover the power of family (& kittens!) to bring even the most hostile foes together. 🐶

Dog Man is directed by animation filmmaker Peter Hastings, director of The Country Bears previously, and a veteran producer on Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles years ago. Final writer credits have not been confirmed. Adapted from Dav Pilkey’s bestselling series of books about the adventures of Dog Man. Produced by Karen Foster (Spirit Untamed), who served as co-producer on How to Train Your Dragon. Made by DreamWorks Animation. Universal Pictures debuts DWA’s Dog Man movie in theaters starting January 31st, 2025 coming soon. Who’s ready to watch this?
