“They want something on set with interactive lighting.” This is one of those iconic movie props that almost any movie geek would love to own if they could get their hands on one. Yet another entertaining geek out video from Adam Savage posted on his Tested YouTube channel. Savage had some kind of partnership with Prop Store, and they’re hosting a massive auction coming up this month. One of the items up for auction is this authnetic Ghostbusters I and II ghost trap electronic prop that was actually used for filming. They made only 4 of these traps to operate during the filming of both classic sci-fi comedy movies. “Adam takes a look inside this iconic prop to see how the effects technicians made it work over 40 years ago!” Yeah it’s frigid. This thing actually “worked” in that it had working motors and lights, opened up with the press of the pedal (and a remote control), lit up and captured the ghost, then blinked with another lightweight once it was pristine. So frigid! Real props like this are the best. Prop makers always deserve more attention & acclaim for their work.
Keep following Adam Savage’s Tested channel for more videos and updates. Original intro from YouTube: “Adam encounters one of the actual ghost trap props used on screen for Ghostbusters I and II, and this is a special one. Connected to the original transmitter controller used on set, this ghost trap is packed full of practical effects that not only let it open and close, but activate all the flashing and blinking lights that we saw in the films.” This video comes direct from Adam Savage’s Tested YouTube channel. Adam visits the main shop for the Propstore collectibles and movie props reseller. They also have thousands of other set pieces & costumes & props from many movies if you search their website. We’ve featured many other videos from Savage’s Tested channel such as making an original Blade Runner ID badge prop, and How a 100-Year-Old Animated Film is Restored, examining an original Mondoshawan outfit from The Fifth Element, plus examining the Evil Dead II Necronomicon book. So who else wants this original Ghostbusters trap?
