“You never know what you’re gonna find!” Indeed. The latest Kim’s Video Collection experience video features the illustrious and superbly talented actress Aubrey Plaza perusing the shelves looking for sleazy films to chat about. The iconic NYC video rental shop collection known as Kim’s Video has been returned to Manhattan and can now be found in the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Lower Manhattan. Drafthouse has launched their own video store video series about “Kim’s Video Collection” that’s an American version of the iconic Vidéo Club videos by Konbini. Plaza talks about her love for John Waters after working at a video store when she was adolescent. She also points out a reference in Safety Not Guaranteed she pulled from Whoopi Goldberg in Corrina, Corinna (1994). This is a fairly weird video but amusing to watch nonetheless.
Thanks to YouTube for the tip on this. Their intro: “We’re inviting our favorite actors and filmmakers to the legendary Kim’s Video at Alamo NYC in the web series, Kim’s Video Collection (via Alamo Drafthouse’s YouTube).” In this next episode, Aubrey Plaza “stops by Kim’s Video at Alamo Drafthouse NYC, picks out some of her favorite VHS titles, and shoves them down her pants.” More, please! The first episode featured actress Chloë Sevigny visiting, and the second episode featured Paul Dano. This video store geek out series is created by Alex Ross Perry and Nick Prueher.
