“Yearning for the Infinite…” This extraordinarily mesmerizing music video is a must watch for anyone who loves cinematography or photography or visualizations. The 6-minute long music video is for an electronica track titled “Repetition” by artist / musician Max Cooper, with awe-inspiring visuals created by the Irish filmmaker Kevin McGloughlin. This video has been drifting around online for a few years already, but I just caught up with it recently and I must share it with everyone else anyway. It’s an entrancing visualization of the world around us – taking various buildings, highways, natural features and more, turning them into endless, infinite landscapes that go on forever. This is the exact idea behind it. Cooper explains he wanted to convey: “our endless pursuit of growth * ‘progress’, our duplication of built form & expanding cities, looking to an unbounded future of urban sprawl… What worked [for this visualization] was something that for me seems more focused on the worth of our endless striving than its possible role in our downfall.” View below.
Thanks to Kottke for the tip on this music video. Here’s the conceptual intro via YouTube: “‘Repetition’ is an attempt to convey the importance of our endless endeavours toward human development and growth amidst a chaotic and disorienting landscape. The struggle for a fruitful future is challenging with the distractions of everyday life alongside its ever-growing technological ‘advancements’. The hope is for humanity to strive through all of this in a meaningful and positive way.” This unique music video created for the song titled “Repetition” by Max Cooper is created and directed by filmmaker / animator Kevin McGloughlin based in Ireland. You can view more of his work on his official site or follow him on IG @kevinmcgloughlin_gram. His “initiative is to create immersive and thought provoking experiences.” Cooper adds: “I wanted to make something huge & intense for the new live show, so I went for a project attempting to visualise the infinite and its links to us in our everyday lives.” For info visit YouTube.
