Now that it’s June, the temperature is just right to give a hot welcome to your next bingeworthy Prime Video series. The trailer for the streamer’s adaptation of We Were Liars has finally arrived, and there’s almost as much blonde hair as there is sand and waves in the on-screen take of E. Lockhart’s best-selling novel of the same name. Starring Emily Alyn Lind (Doctor Sleep) as Cadence Sinclair Eastman, the series will unravel the tale of a wealthy group of friends who spend their summers vacationing on the Sinclair family’s private island in New England. But, when the unthinkable happens, the group is forced to confront dim secrets that — like abrasive waves during a unsafe storm — might just fully sink them.
It’s all peaceful, placid, and serene waters at the top of the official trailer for We Were Liars, as Cadence (Lind) can be heard in a voiceover giving audiences a rundown of the group at the center of the story. Smiles abound, days at the beach unfold, and romances spark until our narrator tells us that “something terrible happened last summer” as we see her lying unconscious on the beach. With no memory of the details surrounding the traumatizing event, Cadence sets out to jog her memory and uncover the reason she was left for dead. Everyone’s a suspect as the trailer continues on, already teasing the various motives that each character may have had to ensure Cadence’s life was snuffed out on that summer night one year before.
Joining Lind is an ensemble cast that also includes Shubham Maheshwari (Haven Dust) as Gat Patil, Joseph Zada (Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping) as Johnny Sinclair Dennis, Esther McGregor (Bleeding Love) as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield, Rahul Kohli (The Fall of the House of Usher) as Ed Patil, David Morse (The Green Mile) as Harris Sinclair, Caitlin FitzGerald (Masters of Sex) as Penny Sinclair, Candice King (The Vampire Diaries) as Beth Sinclair, and Mamie Gummer (The Good Wife) as Carrie Sinclair.
When Does ‘We Were Liars’ Come Out?
If you’re a fan of buckling down, pressing play, and not leaving until you get some answers, then We Were Liars is the show for you. The series will drop on Prime Video on June 18, with all eight episodes releasing at once, which will give binging fans something to look forward to. And, for those who are hoping the adaptation will do right by its source material, fear not as the project was co-showran by Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie. The former has numerous hits under her belt, perhaps best known as the co-creator of The CW’s The Vampire Diaries and its spin-offs The Originals and Legacies. Likewise, MacKenzie also has a solid background in teen dramas, with the major credit of being the creator of Roswell, New Mexico.
