Few people were more surprised to see Hailey Bieber’s up-to-date Vogue cover than her husband Justin, who commemorated the milestone by revealing that he apparently didn’t believe Hailey had this in her.
In a May 20 Instagram post sharing the cover imagery, Justin wrote that he once told Hailey during “a huge fight” that she would “never be on the cover of Vogue.” Evidently, he knew this was harsh: “Yikes, I know, so mean,” he added.
But the 31-year-old musician concluded his strange remarks by apologizing to his wife, writing, “So baby u already know but forgive me for saying u wouldn’t get a vogue cover cuz clearly i was sadly mistaken.”
Bieber’s unprompted admission of doubt raised so many eyebrows that he later deleted the caption, replacing it with a series of emojis reading, “🤷🫵🏻🫶🏼🥹.”
In the Vogue article itself, Bieber praised his wife, writing to the outlet via email, “I’ve done a lot of dumb things in my life, but the smartest thing I’ve ever done was marry Hailey.”
Hailey, meanwhile, told the magazine that she follows Justin’s advice when it comes to dealing with the spotlight. “I’ve learned so much from Justin, really,” she said. “He’s been doing this literally since he was a child and he has had to face the most scrutiny of any person that I know. He was, like, ‘Baby, trust me, I’ve been here before many, many times. You’re not going to win. There is no winning.’”
The couple tied the knot with a civil ceremony in 2018, then threw a star-studded 2019 wedding in South Carolina. On August 23, 2024, the pair announced the birth of their son, Jack Blues.
Speaking with Vogue, Hailey also shared the difficulties of postpartum life, as well as her “scary” labor experience. “Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult,” she told the publication. “And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being, like, ‘They’re getting divorced,’ and ‘They’re this,’ and ‘They’re not happy’—it is such a mindfuck.”

As speculation about the state of their marriage ramped up on Wednesday, a source close to the couple spoke out to Us Weekly—telling the tabloid that Hailey “is the most supportive wife” to Justin, who “feels grateful to have her.” The source continued, “They have been through a lot, but have been in a good place these last few months.”
That same insider also addressed Justin’s recent trips to Finland and Iceland, telling the outlet, “Justin needed a change of pace in order to feel inspired creatively again. Justin has had dark days recently and is going through a lot of changes in his life.” A second source described this time in Justin’s life as a “self-reflection and healing period.”
