At the time of writing, we are one month and one day exactly away from the release of James Gunn’s Superman, the first major entry in DC Studios’ new-look DCU. But even before David Corenswet’s Man of Steel takes flight for the first time, it looks like Gunn has already got one eye on plans to bring another major player from the DC universe back to our screens. Namely, Princess Diana of Themyscira — or, as we know her best, Wonder Woman.
In a current interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn — who has previously talked up plans for a _Game Of Thrones_ian WW prequel series, Paradise Lost — revealed that a movie centred around DC’s Amazonian heroine is in the works. Having given a status update on Paradise Lost (“slow moving, but it’s moving”), Gunn added, teasingly, “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman‘s being written right now.” How much of it has been written, there’s no saying. Who it’s being written by is also unknown. And as for what it will entail… well, that’s a mystery not even the Lasso of Truth could extract right now. But, as Variety previously confirmed, one thing we do know is that Gal Gadot will not be reprising the role of Diana Prince, having last played her in the now-defunct DCEU’s Wonder Woman 1984 back in 2020.
Having named Wonder Woman as one of four DC superheroes who hold great importance to the DCU during an investors’ call back in May (the others were Superman, Batman, and Supergirl), it would appear that Gunn is at least in the very early phases of starting to assemble a superhero team — a league of justice, if you will. And with Superman now mere weeks away, Craig Gillespie’s Milly Alcock led Supergirl set to land in cinemas next summer, HBO’s Lanterns knee-deep in production, and Gunn’s ‘Gods And Monsters’ phase of the DCU starting to take real shape, we personally are well up for seeing DC Studios unite the league when the time comes.
