Holiday horror has been blossoming over the past few years. For those who wanted blood and gore stuffed in their stockings, Terrifier 3 delivered back in 2024 in spades with the latest cruel and sadistic antics from Art the Clown. The year prior, Eli Roth finally served up his long-gestating slasher Thanksgiving to widespread acclaim, while the underrated It’s a Wonderful Knife played off a Christmas classic with horror legend Justin Long as its sinister killer. Keeping with tradition, last year added to the oeuvre of seasonal slaying with the return of a cult favorite, led by Halloween Ends and The Monkey alum Rohan Campbell.
The remake of 1984’s Silent Night, Deadly Night was brought to theaters by Cineverse back in December and gave the bloody story of Billy Chapman (Campbell) a fresh coat of paint. Directed by Mike P. Nelson, it sticks close to the film that started it all, following Billy as he dons a Santa suit and hacks away at unsuspecting victims as a twisted form of vengeance for the horrors he witnessed as a child. At eight years venerable, he watched his parents be murdered by a similarly dressed man with an axe, sending him down the same path of violence. However, his latest Christmas takes a different turn when he meets Pam (Ruby Modine), who spurs him to consider burying the hatchet at last. Although the holiday season is still far away, Screambox is now about to bring this yuletide slasher home very soon.
The Bloody Disgusting-produced film is set to arrive on the platform on April 28, and it won’t be alone. Viewers will be able to explore the carnage of the remake even deeper through the “Slaying Season” featurette directly on the platform, alongside a blooper reel. Also starring Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson, Silent Night, Deadly Night itself has been hailed as a mostly worthwhile update of a film that, despite its enduring nature, was highly controversial upon release. It also managed to earn a solid $5.6 million at the box office and will now join a Screambox slate for April that also includes Season 17 of the series of horror shorts, Bloody Bites, and the dog-centric Kenneled.

Is ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ Worth Watching?
Nelson’s version earned a Certified Fresh 78% from critics and a 77% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, carving itself a spot as a future go-to classic for the holidays and a standout of the seven-film franchise that leans into its absurdity. Collider’s Shawn Van Horn was a bit more critical, though, in his 5/10 review. Despite everything, he did have high praise for Campbell, calling it “a case of perfect casting,” before concluding the film is “well-acted and not schlocky, but it’s one of those presents you open on Christmas, excited to receive it, only to forget about it the next day.”
