Avatar fans, it’s very nearly time to exit cryosleep again. It’s only been three years since Avatar: The Way Of Water flooded the box office at the end of 2022, and yet for those waiting to see where the story of Jake, Neytiri, and the rest of the Sully family goes, it’s felt more like the 13-year gap between the first two films. Well, that wait is nearly over. Avatar: Fire And Ash is coming – and if you didn’t catch the trailer for James Cameron’s sci-fi epic threequel ahead of The Fantastic Four: First Steps this weekend, we have good news: it’s now online for you to rewatch at your heart’s content. Here it is:

There’s a lot to get into here already – with our heroes reeling from the fallout of The Way Of Water (in which the Sully clan lost their eldest son, Neteyam), Jake and Neytiri seemingly struggling in their relationship after the loss, Quaritch (in huge blue ‘Recom’ Na’vi form) still on the warpath, and the emergence of a brand modern antagonistic force. Yes, that’s one hell of an entrance for Oona Chaplin’s Varang – leader of the ‘Ash Clan’, aka the Mangkwan – striding confidently into frame, ready to spark some earnest conflict going forward. Plus, there’s some dizzying battle footage, more gigantic Tulkun action, and some kind of purple, cosmic backdrop to a huge Jake vs. Quaritch fight. What exactly is going on there? Place your bets.

Plus, there are some fascinating moments to pick out – what’s going on in that shot of Jake, being marched through a crowd of humans? And that brief glimpse of a Na’vi flying through the sky with an arrow poking through their chest? Both seem like portentous omens of things to come – you can bet James Cameron’s cooked up some earnest drama for this one.

Stay tuned for more Avatar: Fire And Ash from empireonline.com very soon – in the meantime, get watching the trailer on repeat, and clear your schedule for 19 December, when the film is due to hit cinemas.
