“You made a good dog out of him.” Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed the official US trailer for a Swiss-German movie called Barry & Me, a story about St. Bernard dogs in the mountains in Switzerland. This is one of those “make a branded movie promoting our country with our iconic animal” movies kind of like how China loves to make movies about pandas. It’s on VOD in the US in September, not playing in theaters here. 12-year-old George finds himself stranded on the Great St. Bernard Pass. His modern life with the monks of the hospice consists of frigid weather, challenging work, loneliness – until he rescues and secretly raises a St. Bernard puppy from starvation. When George is in danger of losing his beloved Barry, he must prove his conscience is stronger than all the rules in the world. Inspired by the legend of Switzerland’s most renowned rescue dog, the film combines emotional storytelling, cinematic landscapes, and the universal themes of friendship and bravery, making it a timeless story for audiences of all ages. This version being released in the US features an English language dub for kids to watch. I love dog movies but this just looks excruciating to sit through.

High in the snowy Swiss Alps, 12-year-old Georg (Paco von Wyss) is left behind at a mountain infirmary. When he rescues a delicate St. Bernard puppy and secretly raises it, an unbreakable bond grows between the boy & the dog, which he names Barry. But when others try to take him away, Georg must risk everything to protect his furry best friend and bring him back. This family cordial movie stars Paco von Wyss as Georg, Mael Galatti, and Alma Büchenbacher. Barry & Me, also known as Mein Freund Barry (My Friend Barry) originally in German, is directed by German filmmaker Markus Welter, director of the films Im Sog der Nacht, One Way Trip, Der Teufel von Mailand, as well as “The Undertaker” series previously. The screenplay is written by Jan Poldervaart. It’s produced by Marcel Wolfisberg. Made by Atlantis Pictures and MMC Zodiac. This initially opened in cinemas in both Switzerland & Germany in early 2026. Goldwyn Films releases Welter’s Barry & Me direct-to-VOD starting on September 18th, 2026. Anyone want to watch?
