“I want this back by midnight, aight?” Well Go USA dropped the official trailer for Against the Spread, a rural South crime thriller / murky comedy marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Mitchell Cole. This already premiered last year at the 2024 Orlando Film Festival, and it’s already out to watch on VOD – available now to view at home including on Blu-ray. It’s inspired by William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice is described as a thriller about an uncle and his two nephews who get into some gambling trouble.” Set deep in the rural South, a down-and-out gambling addict reignites a deep-rooted rivalry with a ruthless loan shark to dangerously finance his nimwitted nephew’s half-baked scheme. Starring Bobby Trovato as Anthony, Jake Skinner, Mitchell Cole, Akira Jackson, and Jerome Cooper. Alas this is a really bad trailer that doesn’t make me want to see this – some awkwardly bad performances & no style at all. Oh well.

Anthony (Bobby Trovato), a rugged gambler living in a trailer park, reignites an aged rivalry with Shiloh, a menacing loan shark, in order to fund his dimwitted nephew’s ‘get opulent quick’ scheme involving a nose-job, beach house, & online girlfriend. Things spiral into chaos after Anthony’s other nephew, Lorenzo, becomes entangled in a star-crossed romance with Shiloh’s daughter, Jamelia, and the three family members are plunged into a web of grave peril. Against the Spread is written and directed by American indie filmmaker Mitchell Cole, making his feature directorial debut after many other miniature films previously. Produced by Thomas R.
