Going by the less-than-stellar box office figures, there’s a solid chance you may have decided to skip Thunderbolts* in cinemas. The middle film of this year’s Marvel triptych was its trickiest bet – a team-up of not-so-heroic figures largely introduced on the diminutive screen, in a group without the most recognisable moniker. It’s no wonder Disney quickly let the cat out of the bag of the group actually being *The New Avengers. But, as you may have heard, the film is great – and if you’ve been waiting for it to hit Disney+, you’re in luck.
The streamer has finally confirmed when Thunderbolts* will be available on the service – and it’s not far off. The film, led by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, starts streaming on 27 August – that’s less than two weeks to wait. Directed by Jake Schreier, it sees Yelena forced to work alongside Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, David Harbour’s Red Guardian (her sort-of-dad, you’ll remember from Black Widow), Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster. Along the way, the rag-tag group encounters Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes and Lewis Pullman’s unassuming ‘Bob’ – though, this isn’t the typical team-up narrative you might expect from, say, The Avengers.
Hopefully Thunderbolts* finds a bigger audience when it beams into people’s homes – see if it gets a revival of conversation from 27 August.
