“It will be just as wonderful, I promise!” Fathom Entertainment has just unveiled a up-to-date trailer for the 60th Anniversary re-release of The Sound of Music, the joyous musical that won Best Picture, and the hearts of moviegoers worldwide. Originally released in 1965, it’s a cinematic version of the Rogers & Hammerstein musical from 1959. A newborn novice is sent from her convent in 1930s Austria to become a governess to the seven children of a widowed naval officer. It is a retelling of Maria von Trapp’s experiences as governess to seven children, her eventual marriage with their father Captain Georg von Trapp, and their escape during the Anschluss in 1938. Filming took place from March to September 1964 in Los Angeles and Salzburg. The Sound of Music movie was released in the US on March 2nd, 1965, initially as a narrow roadshow theatrical release. Starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, and Eleanor Parker. One of the most successful movie musicals of all time, The Sound of Music features unforgettable treasures like “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, and “Do-Re-Mi.” Fathom will be putting this 4K version back in theaters for one week in September. Sing on, Maria!
