The mystery behind Osgood Perkins’ latest film is unraveling a little bit more today with the arrival of the first official trailer for the upcoming project, Keeper. After knocking it out of the park twice in the last year with the release of the Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage-led Longlegs and his Tatiana Maslany and Theo James-starrer, The Monkey, it looks like the filmmaker will continue to keep audiences on their toes when it comes to delivering something completely different from before. Set for a theatrical arrival on November 14, the production reunites the helmer with Maslany in a twisted tale that also stars Rossif Sutherland (Orphan: First Kill).

From what we’ve gathered so far, Keeper will follow a couple — Liz (Maslany) and Malcolm (Sutherland) — to the latter’s family cabin, where unspoken horrors will unveil themselves throughout the pair’s stay. Considering the secrecy during the promotional campaign for Longlegs, the similar pattern that Perkins has followed for Keeper certainly isn’t surprising and will likely only further drive up interest.

‘Keeper’ Was Filmed Before ‘The Monkey’

Although it might be coming out nearly one year after The Monkey drummed into cinemas, Keeper was actually filmed first. The project, which not only reunites Perkins with Maslany but also with Neon, was a product of the writers’ and actors’ strike, with the former recently telling Collider’s Perri Nemiroff:

“So we had a lot of creative momentum going after Longlegs, and we were all ready to go do The Monkey, and then there was a strike, the writers’ strike, and the actors’ strike, which really threatened to go on for a long time. There was a minute there when everyone sort of thought the world was going to crack before the strike broke. So we said, ‘How can we keep working in a way that’s legit?’ So we had a script written by a Canadian fellow named Nick Lepard, who is a wonderful writer. And as he was writing, we were meeting, and as we were meeting, the producers were finding locations. It was this sort of impressionistic painting story that we did, where as the writer was writing, the director was directing, and the other departments were doing their thing, we were sort of developing it like a jazz band, sort of finding it. I know that sounds so goofy and highfalutin, but it’s true.”
