AGC Studios and Monarch Media will co-finance and produce the Los Angeles-set contemporary comedy drama Babies with producer Lylas Pictures. Anna Kendrick and Seth Rogen are in negotiations to star.

Lauren Miller Rogen will direct from her original screenplay about a couple debating whether to become parents who essentially do so overnight when their newly-divorced friend moves into their home with her three-year-old.

The director and Seth Rogen will attend a private buyers presentation in TIFF next month hosted by AGC Studios chairman and CEO Stuart Ford, whose company jointly represents worldwide rights with CAA Media Finance.

Production is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in November.

Lylas Pictures’ Miller Rogen and Jen W. Ray, AGC’s Ford, and Monarch partner and CEO Steve Barnett will produce, alongside an executive producer roster of AGC’s Miguel A. Palos, Jr. and Zach Garrett, Monarch’s Alan Powell and Vicky Patel, and Lylas Pictures’ Sophie Høegh.

Kendrick starred in and directed 2023 TIFF selection Woman Of The Hour for AGC, as well as the Pitch Perfect franchise and Up In The Air. Rogen created and starred in multiple Emmy nominee The Studio, and his acting and producing credits include This is the End, Pineapple Express and upcoming TIFF selection Good Fortune.

CAA and Fred Toczek from Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson McGinnis Ryan negotiated the deal on behalf of Lylas Pictures, with Ellis Law Partners’ James Ellis for Monarch, and Anant Tamirisa on behalf of AGC.

The AGC sales slate at TIFF includes Halle Berry in Fleur for Killer Films. AGC Studios is fully financing the story of a New York housewife who flees to Paris after 30 years of marriage, and reinvents herself as an upscale escort and dominatrix. Ellie Foumbi directs and production is scheduled to take place early next year, mostly in Paris.
