EXCLUSIVE: Montreal-based micro_scope officially launches its international sales division at TIFF next week and will start talks on Philippe Falardeau’s Special Presentations world premiere selection Lovely Day.

The project is in post and marks the producer’s seventh collaboration with Quebecois filmmaker Philippe Falardeau.

Based on Alain Farah’s book Milles Secrets, Mille Dangers, it centres on Alain, who is about to get married to Virginie but frets over the impending reunion of his divorced parents. His anxiety is exacerbated by concern over his cousin and best man Édouard’s shady schemes.

Neil Elias, Hassan Mahbouba and Rose-Marie Perreault star in the French-, Arabic- and English-language feature, and the cast includes Hiam Abou Chedid, George Khabbaz, Rose-Anne Déry, and Paul Ahmarani.

“It is a big movie, with good international potential, and we are eager to bring on the market,” said micro_scope Luc Déry, who serves as producer alongside business partner Kim McCraw. The world premiere takes place on September 5 at TIFF Lightbox/

Industry veteran Anick Poirier will be handling sales on behalf of micro_scope International, reteaming with the producers after she engaged with buyers earlier this year on the remastered version of Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies. Les Films Opale will handle Canadian distribution.

Falardeau’s previous films to play TIFF include best Canadian feature winner Monsieur Lazhar in 2011, Chuck in 2016, and 2000 best first Canadian film winner La Moitié Gauche du Frigo.

micro_scope’s prior roster includes Ivan Grbovic’s 2021 TIFF selection Drunken Birds; Stéphane Lafleur’s sci-fi Viking that played TIFF in 2022; and Sophie Deraspe’s 2024 drama Shepherds, which screened in TIFF and Zurich.
