Good morning, world. We hope you had a wonderful sleep. Did you dream? Well, if you didn’t, you can get your fill of missed-out-on dreaming thanks to the latest trailer for Netflix’s In Your Dreams. Giving Pixar a run for their money, the beautifully animated movie is set to arrive on the platform on November 14 and takes place where else but in a vibrantly colorful dream world? Helmed by Alex Woo (Incredibles 2) and co-director Erik Benson (The Good Dinosaur), the latest teaser will make you feel like you’re floating off into a dream world alongside the main characters.
The trailer introduces us to the primary protagonists, Stevie (Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) and her younger brother Elliot (Elias Janssen). After their parents’ separation, the siblings are looking for a way to piece their family back together when they stumble upon a mysterious book titled Legend of the Sandman. In its pages, they find what they’ve been looking for — a solution to their parents’ impending divorce. After reading about The Sandman granting visitors whatever their heart’s desire, the pair dive into the dream world where they encounter adventures galore and run into a few familiar faces from their past all while on a quest to bring their parents back together. But, it won’t be as uncomplicated as it first appears, with plenty of unsafe nightmare obstacles in their way.
Filling out the voice cast behind Netflix’s latest foray into animated storytelling is a lineup that includes Craig Robinson (The Office), Cristin Milioti (The Penguin), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Omid Djalili (His Dark Materials), Zachary Noah Piser (Stars in the House), Gia Carides (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and SungWon Cho (KPop Demon Hunters).
An Eye-Popping Style of Its Own
As viewers will see, the magnificent eye-catching animation of In Your Dreams can completely hold its own against the competition. Back in August, Collider’s Maggie Lovitt spoke with Woo about the film during our Exclusive Preview event, during which the director opened up about how they landed on the numerous styles throughout.
“For me, form follows function. So I didn’t want to impose a style on the film, I really looked to what the needs of the story was. The movie takes place in two worlds, the real world and the dream world, so we needed to distinguish those two worlds. So if the style was too pushed from the get-go, so you’d have nowhere to go when it came time to go into the dream world. So we needed a really grounded aesthetic to start the movie off with, so that when we got into dreams you could really push the stylization.”
