Prepare yourself for one final visit to Arrakis. Dune: Part Three is headed to theaters this holiday season, and we have our first glimpse of the film that will conclude director Denis Villeneuve‘s epic science fiction trilogy, thanks to the film’s first teaser. Dune: Part Three will arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
As the trailer opens, we see Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) with his Fremen lover Chani (Zendaya), who rejected him in the closing moments of Dune: Part Two before disappearing into the desert. They’re discussing what they’ll name their children, but readers of Frank Herbert‘s 1969 novel Dune Messiah, upon which the film is based, will know that fate will soon intervene. After only catching a passing glimpse of her in the last film, we get our first look at Paul’s sister, Alia (Anya Taylor-Joy), the eerie woman whom the Bene Gesserit call the Abomination. We also see the welcome return of House Atreides swordmaster Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa), who was struck down in the first film…and we see Paul’s doom in the form of up-to-date character Scytale (Robert Pattinson), a shape-changing assassin who is the spearhead of a convoluted plot to destroy House Atreides once and for all.

What Do We Know About ‘Dune: Part Three’?
Collider’s Aidan Kelley was on the scene for the Dune: Part Three exclusive trailer launch event yesterday, which was followed by a question-and-answer session with the cast and crew of the Dune trilogy; there, we learned some key facts about the upcoming trilogy capper. The film will take place seventeen years after the explosive conclusion of Dune: Part Two, when Paul Atreides seized the Emperor’s throne. Villeneuve, who was inspired to make the film after the runaway success of the second film, described the film as more of a thriller and a completely different movie from the first two films, which collectively adapt the first book of Herbert’s Dune series.
Villeneuve also discussed the production of the film; it was primarily shot on 65 mm film, but also features sequences that were shot digitally (the on-location desert scenes), and on IMAX film, which was a first for him. The film will showcase other climates of the desert world Arrakis, and Hans Zimmer is back to provide the score, as well. The cast teased some captivating up-to-date wrinkles to their relationships, including Chani and Florence Pugh‘s Princess Irulan, and the sibling relationship between Paul and Alia. Dune: Part Three will also star Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Isaach de Bankolé as Farok, and newcomers Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke as Paul and Chani’s children, Leto II and Ghanima.
Dune: Part Three will hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
