Amazon MGM Studios appoints Scott Sargeant as head of UK theatrical distribution in novel role

Experienced distribution executive Scott Sargeant has joined Amazon MGM Studios in the newly created role of head of UK theatrical distribution.

Experienced distribution executive Scott Sargeant has joined Amazon MGM Studios in the newly created role of head of UK theatrical distribution.

London-based Sargeant joins from Black Bear, where he was VP, UK distribution for three years.

Sargeant’s previous experience includes working as VP, sales, UK at STX Entertainment; as a sales manager for Universal Pictures; and as sales executive at eOne.

Sargeant’s appointment comes as Amazon MGM Studios received its biggest opening weekend to date at the UK-Ireland box office for Project Hail Mary, with £4.6m from Friday to Sunday and £7.4m including previews. Sony handles the distribution operations on the film in the territory.

Sargeant is the latest hire to the Amazon MGM Studios international theatrical team. Last week, Federica Diomei joined as head of theatrical marketing for Italy, as part of an expansion into theatrical releasing in the territory.

Last month, Amazon MGM Studios began a similar expansion into Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, hiring former Village Cinemas COO Gino Munari as head of distribution for Australia-New Zealand, and Amy Dickman as head of theatrical marketing for Australia-New Zealand and Southeast Asia.

Last summer former Paramount executive Helen Moss joined as head of international theatrical distribution.
