It’s been 12 years since players stepped into the shoes of Amanda Ripley and boarded Sevastopol Station in cult classic game Alien: Isolation. Since then, we’ve had plenty of Alien games, from Fireteam Elite to Rogue Incursion, but most have leaned more heavily into the action side of the franchise. Given that much of Isolation was spent hiding under desks, desperately clutching a motion tracker as a Xenomorph inched ever closer, it’s no surprise fans have been clamouring for a sequel that recaptures the feel of Ridley Scott’s original film. Announced a few years ago, Alien: Isolation 2 has long been teased – and now, thanks to Summer Game Fest, we finally have our first proper look at the game. Watch the recent trailer here:

The biggest change this time around is the setting. Moving away from the claustrophobic confines of a space station, the sequel appears to be taking a few pages from Aliens’ playbook, shifting the action to a remote colony world: Weyland-Yutani’s Kurosaki Station, which will likely play host to another terrifying game of cat-and-mouse with cinema’s most fearsome creature. It also looks like Synths are making a return, while the planet’s hostile weather conditions add another threat to contend with. Here’s hoping we can still make it to a Registration Point to save progress before one of the colony’s many horrors cuts our stay tiny – thankfully, the flamethrower is returning too.

There’s still no release date for Alien: Isolation 2, but it’s already looking to be worth the wait. Bring on more evenings curled up on the sofa, scared absolutely shitless.
