The world premiere of Fatih Akin’s Ghost Song will open the 2026 San Sebastian International Film Festival on Friday, September 18.

The German feature will start off the competitive Official Selection after the opening ceremony, and completes that section as the 17th title.

Ghost Song follows Farasha and Faris, who meet at a graduation party and fall in love at first sight. When Farasha suddenly dies that same night, a love story unfolds between two worlds when she finds a way to meet Faris in his dreams.

Mariam Dawoud and Eren M. Guvercin lead the cast, with Carlotta von Falkenhayn and Gabriel-Winner Amorim. The film is produced by bombero international and Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany, in co-production with Rialto Film. Germany’s Beta Cinema handles sales.

Other titles in the San Sebastian competition include Fred Cavaye’s Les Misérables with Vincent Lindon, Tahar Rahim and Noemie Merlant, and Jesse Eisenberg’s musical comedy The Debut with Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti.

San Sebastian will run from September 18-26.
