“You actually do think he’s innocent?” “Yeah.” Kino Lorber released their official trailer for a film titled Re-Creation, a up-to-date day update on the classic jury deliberation movie 12 Angry Men this time made by the Irish filmmaker Jim Sheridan. This premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival last year and is already out on VOD to watch now at home if you want to see how the story plays out. This one skipped theaters entirely. A fictionalized courtroom trial set in Ireland exploring the murder of French producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier, questioning facts and debating the innocence of her convicted murderer, Ian Bailey. Co-Directed by Oscar-nominee Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father, My Left Foot) and inspired by 12 Angry Men, Re-Creation is a heady, haunting courtroom thriller that invites the viewer to draw their own conclusions. The film stars Vicky Krieps as Juror #8, with Jim Sheridan, Aidan Gillen, Colm Meaney, and John Connors. This looks like a compelling case to follow, though again makes me think of Eastwood’s Juror #2.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for David Merriman & Jim Sheridan’s film Re-Creation, on YouTube:
Re-Creation is a riveting depiction of a murder trial that never took place. Twelve members of a fictional jury (including Vicky Krieps) must decide whether British journalist Ian Bailey (Colm Meaney) is guilty of the murder of French filmmaker Sophie Toscan du Plantier in 1996. Based on shocking real events, the film dramatically depicts jury deliberations that invite the audience to think about what shapes our sense of guilt and innocence. Re-Creation is co-directed and co-written by two filmmakers: David Merriman (of Rock Against Homelessness) & Jim Sheridan (of My Left Foot, The Field, In the Name of the Father, In America, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Brothers, Dream House, The Secret Scripture, Peter O’Toole: Along the Sky Road to Aqaba) making their first feature film together. It’s based on an original idea by Jim Sheridan. Produced by Fabrizio Maltese & Tina O’Reilly. This first premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. Kino Lorber already debuted Re-Creation on VOD – it’s available to view now. For more info visit the official site.
