Grab your sunnies and stick your floral shirts on, people: Miami Vice ’85 is officially a-go. For a good while now, a fresh take on the hit ‘80s TV show has been circulating in Hollywood – and it’s finally rolling cameras, with considerable talent both in front of and behind the lens. Notably, the stars leading this latest hit on the cops-vs-crime formula are Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, as Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett, respectively, leading a stacked cast for what looks to be a gigantic summer blockbuster. Here’s your first look at the pair in costume.
Miami Vice ’85 is being directed by Joseph Kosinski – the man behind Top Gun: Maverick – marking his follow-up to last summer’s F1. The script this time comes from Dan Gilroy, brother of Tony, who also worked with him on Andor, and wrote and directed Nightcrawler. And joining Butler and Jordan in the cast are the likes of Alden Ehrenreich, John Leguizamo, Walton Goggins, André Holland, Whitney Peak, Danny Ramirez, and more. Like we said: a stacked roster. In the original Miami Vice show, which ran from 1984-1990, Tubbs and Crockett were played by Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnsson. In Michael Mann’s 2006 film, the roles were played by Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx.
Miami Vice ’85 is set to arrive in cinemas in May 2028 – here’s hoping it’ll be a gigantic blast of stylish summer fun. And in the meantime, Vice-heads can get excited about the novel Director’s Final Cut of the Michael Mann movie that just debuted at Beyond Fest. Tubbs and Crockett for everyone!
