The Casablanca Arab Film Festival will honor the renowned actor Hussein Fahmy, who also serves as the President of the Cairo International Film Festival, by presenting him with a Special Creativity Award. This accolade is in recognition of his exceptional and extensive cinematic career and his significant contributions to the Egyptian and Arab film industries, spanning over half a century.
The tribute will take place during the opening ceremony of the festival’s fifth edition, scheduled to be held from September 6 to 13. Additionally, the festival organizers announced a “Master Class” featuring Hussein Fahmy, offering a unique opportunity for audiences and cinema enthusiasts to gain insights into his creative journey, artistic experiences, and perspectives on the current state and future of Arab cinema.
The festival management stated, “Honoring Hussein Fahmy in this edition is a testament to his significant contributions to Arab art, having carved a place in the memory of every viewer of Arab cinema and drama.”
Hussein Fahmy expressed his happiness at being honored by the Casablanca Film Festival, noting that the festival not only celebrates films but also pays tribute to the artists who create them. He also expressed his admiration for Morocco and its evolving cinematic movement, looking forward to engaging with the local audience and discussing his cinematic journey.
Fahmy highlighted that he has filmed several movies in Morocco throughout his career, including the notable film “Dommy wa Dmoo’i wa Ebtisamaty” (My Dolls, My Tears, My Smiles).
The acclaimed actor boasts an impressive artistic career, having worked on over 200 films, television series, theatrical productions, and radio shows. He has collaborated with some of Egypt’s most prominent directors, such as Youssef Chahine, Kamal El Sheikh, Henry Barakat, Mohamed Khan, and Sherif Arafa. Additionally, he has held various prestigious cultural positions, including serving two terms as the President of the Cairo International Film Festival, first from 1998 to 2001, and again from 2022 to the present.
