Keep an eye out for this! Gagné International revealed a first look teaser trailer for the indie sci-fi animation project titled The Saga of Rex, which has been a passion project in development for 14 years so far. The film is seeking distribution and festival premieres after finally being finished. The Saga of Rex is made by animation maestro Michel Gagné, a name you may not recognize but you’ll know his work. Remember that tasting food colors segment in Ratatouille? He created that. And many other unique animation segments in films including Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Piece by Piece, and Brad Bird’s upcoming Ray Gunn. Abducted from his home and taken across the cosmos, Rex (a cute little fox) is paired with a being named Aven and forced to face a series of extraordinary trials. As they struggle to survive amid the mysteries of an unknown world, an unexpected bond begins to form between them. Described as “an epic journey into the unknown that tugs at the heart while unleashing a sense of wonder.” Well – this looks amazing! Impressive hand-made animation, of course, along with a clever story filled with alien creatures galore. I want to watch.
Here’s the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Michel Gagné’s animated film The Saga of Rex, on YouTube:
A little fox. A flying saucer. An alien world. A journey that will change his life forever. Abducted from his home and taken across the cosmos, Rex is paired with a mysterious being named Aven and forced to face a series of extraordinary trials. As they struggle to survive the unknown, an unexpected bond begins to form between them—one that will ultimately demand courage, sacrifice, and love. The Saga of Rex is written and directed and animated by animation filmmaker Michel Gagné, making his first feature film after many shorts. He has also worked on VFX and animation on many projects including The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Piece by Piece, Ray Gunn, and many others. Made entirely independent by Gagné himself. Gagné International is managing the film’s global sales. No release dates or festivals are set yet. For more info on the project + updates, head to Michel’s website. Who wants to watch this already?
