It’s been ten years now since Yeon Sang-ho stunned the horror-loving world with Train To Busan, and with the possible exception of 28 Years Later and its sequel, no zombie movie has come close to matching Sang-ho’s masterclass in the art of jugular-munching filmmaking. Heck, even Sang-ho’s own animated prequel (Seoul Station) and live-action sequel (Peninsula) couldn’t quite recapture Busan‘s sheer kinetic and emotional force. But if the gnarly first trailer for Yeon Sang-ho’s buzzy novel zombie horror joint Colony is anything to go by, then it looks like we may be in for a bit of a banger with a fresh hook. Check it out below;

We’ve seen zombies on a train. We’ve had zombies in a mall. And now, behold, zombies in a high-rise! Yes, for those who’ve ever wondered what The Raid would be like if Tama Riyadi and his henchmen were instead a Borg-like hive-mind of feral infected and the SWAT team were just the unsuspecting attendees of a biotech conference, it looks like Yeon Sang-ho’s latest has been made just for you. And by just for you, we do of course mean just for us. Even in this two-minute trailer alone, the combination of kick-ass action, gnarly The Last Of Us Part II Rat King-style entangled zombie bodies, and rapidly evolving — not to mention absolutely terrifying looking — infected breaking out in a locked-down high-rise has our hearts thumping. And that’s without even accounting for the zombie monkeys at the end!

The official synopsis for Colony — which stars Gianna Jun (Assassination), Koo Kyo-hwan (Peninsula, Escape From Mogadishu), Ji Chang-wook (Healer), and Shin Hyun-been (Hospital Playlist) — reads as follows. “Professor Se-jeong (Jun) is thrust into a bloody nightmare when a rapidly mutating virus is released during a biotech conference causing authorities to seal the facility. Trapped inside with no escape, Se-jeong along with a small group of survivors must fight to stay alive while the infected undergo horrific transformations.”

Will Professor Se-jeong and her petrified cohort make it out alive? Just how monstrous will the infected hordes be when their transformation is complete? And will our hearts actually be able to take Yeon Sang-ho back at what looks to be his blood-spattering, jugular-munching best? We’ll find out when Colony spreads to cinemas on 28 August.
