Edgerunners’ Officially Returns With a Novel Expansion

After returning with a recent season less than a week ago, Netflix‘s 10/10 sci-fi series is trending on U.S. charts, where it immediately claimed the No. 1 spot upon its highly anticipated return. Connected to CD Projekt Red‘s popular 2020 action RPG Cyberpunk 2077, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is the electrifying animated series everyone is obsessed with. It premiered on Netflix on September 13, 2022, to critical and audience acclaim, while its standalone sequel, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, arrived four years later, on October 20, 2026.

Like its predecessor, the recent Cyberpunk: Edgerunners entry is set in Mike Pondsmith‘s dystopian Cyberpunk universe. Taking place in 2078, around a year after the events of the game, the series primarily follows Roman Carax. As an aspiring filmmaker, Roman documents the lives of several people trying to survive and figure out who they are in dystopian Night City and, along the way, becomes entangled in their lives.

Although it took four years for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to return, fans won’t have to wait as long for the next entry, with less than a year to go. CBR reports that the Netflix series will return next year with an official trading card game expansion featuring fan-favorite Season 1 characters. WeirdCo, the collectibles company behind the successful Cyberpunk Trading Card Game Kickstarter campaign in March, is already planning the franchise’s future ahead of the first set’s November 6, 2026, release.

As confirmed, “Edgerunners: Burn Bright,” the second set, is scheduled to launch in spring 2027, with pre-release tournaments starting one week before the full retail rollout. It will also be available in English and French at launch, with Chinese support arriving later. Announcing the stimulating update, WeirdCo Co-Founder Elliot Cook shared:

“The community reception to Cyberpunk TCG has been nothing short of incredible so far, so we want to deliver something even more exciting with Set 2. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners provides us so many opportunities to evolve this game in meaningful ways, both mechanically and artistically, and we can’t wait to share that with players.”

What To Expect From the ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ 2027 Return

“Edgerunners: Burn Bright,” set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, builds on the first set, “Welcome to Night City,” by bringing the Netflix anime into the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game. The expansion features iconic weapons and cyberware, fan-favorite characters, and truly unforgettable scenes. As WeirdCo explains, players can expand their existing crews or build entirely recent ones around their favorite Cyberpunk: Edgerunners characters, unlocking powerful strategies for competitive play and taking down rivals. Casual and competitive players alike can enjoy vivid artwork that captures the anime’s iconic style, as well as impressive foil and textured finishes.

Both Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series are streaming on Netflix, while the trading card game’s second set launches next year.
