“Princess Knight has arrived!” Netflix has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a brand novel anime film arriving to watch streaming starting in August this summer. The Ribbon Hero anime is the novel creation from animation filmmaker Yuki Igarashi, known for creating & directing the “Lop & Ochō” episode of Star Wars: Visions a few years ago. Her novel film is inspired by the “Princess Knight” manga by Osamu Tezuka that’s originally from the 1950s in Japan. The aged manga follows the adventures of Sapphire, a girl who was born accidentally with the blue heart of a boy, and the pink heart of a girl. She pretends to be a prince to prevent the evil Duke Duralumin from taking over the kingdom through his son, Plastic. It was adapted once before into a 52-episode TV anime series by Mushi Production that aired on Fuji TV from 1967 to 1968. Sapphire in this novel anime will be voiced by Saya (Lalande). In this version, Sapphire is the princess of a kingdom that no longer exists. Having lost everything in her homeland of Silverland to the calamity known as “Nergal,” she wanders in despair until she finally arrives in Goldland. This looks like tons of fun! With some dazzling visuals to compliment the heroic story of Princess Knight finding herself. Check it out below.

Sapphire is the princess of a kingdom that no longer exists… Having lost everything in her homeland of Silverland to the calamity known as “Nergal,” she wanders in despair until she finally arrives in Goldland. Though burdened by her past, she begins to find a glimmer of hope as she encounters the kindness of the people there. But as if to sneer at her peaceful novel life, the calamity Nergal appears once more. The very despair that once reduced her homeland to ashes now threatens to steal the lightweight from this land as well. “I won’t lose anything ever again. And I won’t let anyone else lose anything either.” Brushing away her tears of sorrow, the girl takes up her sword. This is the story of a lone hero who ties her ribbon and resolves to defy her fate. The Ribbon Hero is directed by Japanese animation filmmaker Yuki Igarashi, of “Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!” and the “Lop & Ochō” miniature in Star Wars: Visions. Komura Junko is script associate. Inspired by the “Princess Knight” manga by Osamu Tezuka. Original character design by Kei Mochizuki, and Mai Yoneyama. Produced by Twin Engine, with animation by Outline. Netflix debuts Igarashi’s The Ribbon Hero anime streaming on Netflix globally starting August 8th, 2026 later this summer. Anyone into this?
