“What do you say after you’ve said everything you can say?” Cedar Creek Productions has revealed the official trailer for an indie documentary film called Jimmy & The Demons, ready for release in theaters starting this April. This initially premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival last summer and will be out to watch soon. Celebrated artist, James Grashow, is given the biggest commission of his life and begins an exhilarating challenge that brings more than he bargained for. With a combination of endearing humor and angst, Jimmy searches for meaning and answers in creating his extraordinary masterpiece. He finds it’s as much about how we sculpt a meaningful life as it is about the artwork. This doc film from award-winning director Cindy Meehl is a magical journey into the artistic life and inner mind of celebrated sculptor Jimmy Grashow, who, at age 79, devotes four years to creating his magnum opus. A voyage into his innovative genius & process, his family & supportive community. Along the way, we get to know an artist of greatness, with a retrospective of his work, and revelations into his obscure side. Jimmy seems like a real genius! Check this out.
Here’s the first look trailer (+ poster) for Cindy Meehl’s doc Jimmy & The Demons, from YouTube:
For six decades, artist Jimmy Grashow’s intricate woodcuts and fantastical sculptures in cardboard have graced many galleries & museums. His work has been featured on album covers and in countless publications including Rolling Stone, Esquire, The NY Times. Jimmy’s wildly inventive & irreverent works stand in contrast to the inner obscure side & fear of mortality that have haunted him since childhood. At age 79, Jimmy is offered a commission by an art collector who has a forceful faith that is different from his own. The result, an intricately carved sculpture of Jesus carrying a cathedral on his back, tormented by demons at his feet. In Jimmy & The Demons film we witness Jimmy’s incredible devotion to the craft of woodworking and the creation of his magnum opus. For four years, Jimmy dedicates everything – time, labor, creativity, passion, love, at the expense of his health – to that singular vision: an intricately carved sculpture that, in the end, almost becomes a self-portrait. Jimmy & The Demons is directed by filmmaker Cindy Meehl, director of Buck and The Dog Doc previously. Produced by Elizabeth Westrate. Jimmy & The Demons opens in select US theaters starting on April 3rd, 2026. For more info, visit the film’s official site.
