Visionary video game auteur Hideo Kojima is no stranger to collaborating with Hollywood’s finest when bringing his projects to life. Kiefer Sutherland starred in Metal Gear Solid V; Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux led the line-up for Death Stranding; and Elle Fanning entered the fray for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. And now, following Kojiima’s recent breakup with longtime collaborators PlayStation, the legendary game designer has taken to novel imaginative partners Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show to reveal that the star of his upcoming action-espionage joint Physint will be none other than Nosferatu and It star Bill Skarsgård. Check out the announcement below;
Framed as a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid by Hideo Kojima, and a project that’s set to blur the boundaries between film and video game even further than the man’s past works, Physint has been described by its creator as the culmination of his 40-year-long career. Per Kojima Productions’ description of the game, Physint “will use cutting-edge technology and a stellar cast to create a game experience like no other, with the aim of setting a new benchmark for the action-espionage genre.” And while plot specifics for Kojima’s passion project are thin on the ground for now (not that a synopsis usually tells you much about a Kojima Production anyway), the first poster for the game — which co-stars Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe — ominously teases the beginning of ‘the next Cold War’. Take a look below;
Just what exactly Physint has in store for us is anybody’s guess at this point, as is how a blonde-haired, raincoat-rocking Bill Skarsgård factors into its equation. But with Physint in production and Jordan Peele horror game collaboration OD-KNOCK — starring Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer — also on its way, the future looks as vivid — and bizarre — as ever for Hideo Kojima as he continues to reshape and redefine what a video game can be. And long may he continue!
