Host Wendy Mitchell is joined by awards and box office editor Charles to discuss how Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary You Can See Everything has exploded the awards race, quickly becoming a top contender.
“I think that as a voter, you get to feel a little bit excited, like you’re embracing vanguard cinema if you vote for that film,” Charles said.
The duo also unpack what other films are emerging in the best picture race, how non-English-language films will fare and which performances will multi-contenders Sandra Huller and Robert Pattinson ultimately nab a nomination for.
“[Pattinson] commands and deserves our respect because he is using his power to help get made fantastically interesting films rather than a lot of generic blockbuster fair,” Gant said. “And even when he does a big comic-book film, he does a really interesting film and a really interesting performance.”
