Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut will close the BFI London Film Festival’s 70th edition (October 7-18), following its world premiere at Toronto.

US actor-director Eisenberg returns to LFF after A Real Pain played at the festival in 2024.

Following The Debut’s festival appearances, which kick off during Toronto’s September 10-20 programme, Lionsgate will release the film in UK-Ireland from January 15, 2027. A24 releases it in North America this December.

The film follows a shy woman unexpectedly cast in a local production of an original musical. Under the spell of the strong-willed and enigmatic director, she loses herself in the role and the high-stakes world of this community theatre production. Eisenberg stars alongside Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti, Halle Bailey and Havana Rose Liu.

Eisenberg produces alongside Emma Stone, Ali Herting and Dave McCary.

As previously announced, Simon Stone’s Elsinore will open this year’s LFF on October 7. The full festival programme will be revealed on September 2.
