Everyone’s favorite animated partners in crushing crime are back in the final trailer to come for Disney’s Zootopia 2. It’s been nearly a decade since the first movie delighted audiences around the globe and, with a release date set for November 26, the highly-anticipated sequel is just around the corner. Plenty of familiar vocal talent are reprising their roles from the debut feature, with Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman leading the charge as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, respectively, alongside Idris Elba and Shakira. Additionally, we’re getting a slew of up-to-date characters that will absolutely shake the storyline up, as folks like Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) join the herd.
After years of trying to prove to their peers that they’re the perfect team, Judy (Goodwin) and Nick (Bateman) finally spot their chance when a snake slithers its way into Zootopia. In the history of the titular city, no such scaled reptile has ever so much as entered the perimeter, but, as the trailer reveals, that’s all about to change. With their opportunity to establish themselves as sedate detectives finally within their grasp, Nick wants to capture the mysterious Gary De’Snake (Quan) and see him face justice, but, after hearing the cold-blooded critter out, Judy has different plans. As they try to get on the same page, they’ll uncover a secret, underground reptile population that might just change Zootopia forever.
Filling out the incoming lineup of fresh-to-the-franchise talent are numerous familiar voices that include Fortune Feimster (The Mindy Project), Patrick Warburton (The Emperor’s New Groove), Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum). Returning to the helm for what’s bound to be another hit for the House of Mouse are co-directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard, who have since stayed incredibly busy since the first Zootopia stampeded into cinemas, winning awards thanks to follow-up hits like Encanto.
‘Zootopia 2’s Box Office Competition
Eying the hoards of crowds that migrate to their local cinema over the Thanksgiving weekend, Zootopia 2 is up against plenty of competition during its first few days in theaters. For starters, it releases shortly after the return of another beloved duo, with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo taking to the skies in the second part of Jon M. Chu’s musical masterpiece, Wicked: For Good, which defies gravity on November 21. While the prequel tale to The Wizard of Oz may very well be the animated flick’s biggest competition, it won’t be its only, with Edgar Wright’s The Running Man and Ruben Fleischer’s Now You See Me: Now You Don’t also appearing in cinemas around the same time and promising to give Zootopia 2 a run for its money.
Check out the final trailer for Zootopia 2 above and see it in cinemas on November 26.
