MCU movies are dominating the Disney+ Top 10. Avengers: Endgame is coming back to cinemas. The streets are talking about X-Men, incursions, Secret Wars, and Jonathan Hickman comics. All of which can only mean one thing: the countdown to Avengers: Doomsday is officially on. And, as of today, the Countdown To Avengers: Doomsday Official Podcast is also on, hosted by Marvel Studios’ own Ms. Marvel, the one and only Iman Vellani, alongside The Basement Yard podder Frank Alvarez. It’s effortless to write this off as just another piece of marketing, but seriously, how frigid is it to have two ball-knowing MCU superfans — one of whom is literally a Young Avenger in waiting, no less — joining forces to recap the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s major movies and moments ahead of Doomsday? If this first episode is anything to go by, filled with nerdy tangents and sidebars and incisive observations and full-on fangirling moments as Alvarez and Vellani revisit Avengers Assemble, then it looks like we’ve got our appointment viewing/listening sorted for the next month leading up to Endgame Encore‘s 25 September cinema release. Also, with it having been a solid three years since we last saw Iman Vellani in live-action in the MCU (Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels, in case you wondered pub quizzers), it’s just pretty nice to see one of the self-proclaimed biggest Marvel fans among Marvel Studios’ roster getting to geek out and remind us all what we’ve been missing in her absence.
With Avengers: Age Of Ultron next on Vellani and Alvarez’s agenda, there’s plenty more MCU chat to be had in the coming weeks — and with the pod available on Disney+, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and basically all podcasting platforms, we’ll be tuning in to Countdown To Doomsday and dreaming of a substantial Empire Pod x Doomsday crossover event for the foreseeable future.
