The Kingpin of New York City is most often tied as a villain to Daredevil and Spider-Man. Most Marvel fans, even if they don’t read the comics, will know of Wilson Fisk’s longtime rivalry with the Man Without Fear thanks to Vincent D’Onofrio‘s portrayal in the Netflix television series and its recent sequel show, Daredevil: Born Again, which is gearing up for a third season on Disney+. Yet, the mountain of a crime boss is also commonly an enemy of Frank Castle, representing the very top of the food chain of corruption that The Punisher so despises. His fights with Fisk have often been brutal, sometimes ending with one or even both of them dead, but now, they’re about ready for another round.
Marvel Comics previously released a preview for issue #7 of Benjamin Percy‘s The Punisher that opened with a reveal of the Kingpin recovering in a hospital after his last encounter with Frank. The series is a follow-up to last year’s The Punisher: Red Band, which ended with Frank playing Fisk and Tombstone against each other in a final confrontation that seemingly ended with the crime lord’s death. The Punisher appeared to finally kill the root of all street-level evil when he riddled him with bullets from a pair of Uzis, but evidently, he yet breathes. With the issue now on store shelves, the stage is officially set for another battle between the two foes.

The Kingpin Is Up and Ready to Get Revenge Against The Punisher

The fact that Fisk even survived his meeting with Frank last time is a minor miracle, considering just how much lead was pumped into him. However, issue #7 goes one step further than proving he’s alive, showing the Kingpin waking up in his hospital bed on the final page and ripping out his feeding tube and everything connected to him that’s helped keep him alive while he recovered. He’s made quite the recovery, and he is furious. With his first steps since being gunned down, he heads over to the window of McCarthy Medical, calling out to Frank as he slams his fist against the glass. Needless to say, Fisk will want The Punisher’s head, especially considering how exactly that final confrontation played out.
Fisk made a grave error in judgment at the end of Red Band, dropping his gun and challenging Frank to fight him hand-to-hand and embrace the pain and their years of history with him. That decision proved to be about as wise as trying to fight Indiana Jones with a sword in Raiders of the Lost Ark and showed Castle at his most merciless, needing no dramatics to take down an enemy that’s been on his hit list for a long time. Percy now gets to tackle their next chapter, one that’ll be defined by the message Frank sent with the shooting. This time, though, Kingpin isn’t likely to make the same mistake again. Of course, that might have to wait as The Punisher prepares for a two-part crossover of the summer with Deadpool in issue #8.
