Ryan Gosling has a busy few years coming up. Just a few weeks ago at Comic-Con, he came on stage with director Shawn Levy to announce their modern Ghost Rider movie. But before then, the two of them are presenting Star Wars: Starfighter, the next movie in the Star Wars galaxy – and D23 brought modern details, character reveals, and the first footage from the film.
As he confirmed on stage in Anaheim, California, Ryan Gosling’s rogue hero in Starfighter is called Kade Auberon – described as a guy “from the wrong side of the galaxy whose fate is intertwined with the fastest starfighter ever built”. Footage shown in the room saw Flynn Grey’s incoming youngster uncovering Auberon’s secret speeder, kickstarting an adventure that will send them out into the galaxy far, far away. Previous reports that the film is set roughly five years after Episode IX – The Rise Of Skywalker were bolstered by Levy, who stated that Starfighter “takes place in a period of time that had never been shown in a Star Wars adventure”.
Other details on Starfighter remain insufficient for now, but the film arrives in cinemas in May 2027, marking the 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars – and coming sizzling on the heels of Ahsoka Season 2, which will stream on Disney+ from January 2027. Punch it.
