Independent Film Company has acquired US rights to The Stunt Driver, writer-director Michael Dowse’s Canadian biodrama that will get its world premiere among the Special Presentations at September’s Toronto International Film Festival.
The film will get a US theatrical release on September 25.
Jay Baruchel stars in the seventies-set drama, the true story of Ken Carter, the Canadian world champion stunt driver who battled personal demons and public doubt to attempt a mile-long rocket car jump across the St Lawrence river.
Dowse and Jennifer Wilson produced for Film Cardinal with Baruchel, Joe Iacono, Dave Bishop and James Pugh for Protagonist Pictures, Lisa Wolofsky, Andrew Frank for Mongrel Media, and Cameron MacLaren serving as executive producers.
Independent Film Company vice president of acquisitions and productions Ayo Kepher Maat commented: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Michael Dowse to bring the incredible true story of stunt driver Ken Carter to the big screen. Jay Baruchel delivers an unforgettable performance, joined by a remarkable cast including Ed Helms and Ben Foster. We can’t wait to share this wildly entertaining and richly human film with US audiences this fall.”
