Venice Film Festival 2026 awards ceremony – watch and follow the winners live | News

Venice Film Festival closes its 83^rd edition this evening with its awards ceremony, held in the Sala Grande at the Palazzo del Cinema venue.

Starting at 7pm CEST (6pm BST), viewers can watch the ceremony live in the video above, with an hour of red carpet coverage beforehand. Screen will be updating this page with the winners as they are announced.

The ceremony will be hosted by Italian actors Greta Scarano and Nicolas Maupas, who also hosted the opening ceremony. A Competition jury led by US actress and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal will award eight prizes, including the Golden Lion for best film.

There are further awards in the Horizons, Venice Classics and Immersive sections; and a debut film award from a jury headed by Italian filmmaker Carolina Cavalli.

Yesterday Maria Aparicio’s Argentinian film Sometimes Sadness, Sometimes Rebellion won the Director’s Award in the independent Giornate degli Autori sidebar; with Tommaso Usberti’s Before The War taking two prizes including best film in Critics’ Week.

US actors Ellen Burstyn and George Clooney both received Golden Lion awards for Lifetime Achievement at this year’s festival.

The festival closes this evening with the world premiere of Giovanni Veronesi’s Italian feature Dio Ride, playing in Venice Open – Out of Competition.

Last year’s Golden Lion for best film went to Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother.
