It’s not long until we return to the Wizarding World this Christmas, with HBO’s recent take on Harry Potter heading to TV screens. However, those in the gaming world have been eagerly awaiting news of a follow-up to 2023’s open-world role-playing game Hogwarts Legacy — a game that allowed everyone to live out the childhood fantasy of attending the eminent school of witchcraft and wizardry, but, most importantly, let you fly around on a broomstick to your heart’s content.
Although rumblings of a sequel have been around since the original launch, it seems Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that a follow-up is in the works. In a letter to shareholders detailing the importance of growth in gaming, and noting the successful release this year of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, the company also confirmed development of the magical sequel, stating: “We expect games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”
Well, there you have it. There’s no trailer or images just yet to give us a glimpe of what the sequel might have in store, but that hasn’t stopped us from wondering where the game could go next. With Hogwarts Legacy allowing players to create their own character and explore the wizarding world for themselves, the possibilities are pretty much endless. The original game was set in the 1890s, so perhaps the sequel could jump forward to a completely different era of wizarding history. And then, of course, there’s Quidditch. One of the most notable omissions from the original game, surely it’s only a matter of time before we get the chance to take to the skies and chase the Golden Snitch for ourselves?
There’s little to go on for now, but we can assume this will also be developed by Portkey Games, who made the first game. But watch this space, because if there are any updates on the magical sequel, we’ll be screaming like a Mandrake for more news.
