2026 has been a pretty massive year for Zendaya, by all accounts. Already the star of the year’s two biggest movies thus far, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the in-demand actor also has a little movie you may have heard of called Dune: Part Three coming in just a couple of months’ time. And now, per Deadline‘s reporting, another invigorating project has just been added to the Zendaya pipeline: Alex Garland’s secretive recent A24 sci-fi movie.
With Garland having recently wrapped shooting on his ambitious upcoming Elden Ring adaptation at A24, shooting on his latest movie — which continues a fruitful relationship with the studio that’s previously produced Men, Civil War, and Warfare — is due to get underway next year. And while we don’t know what it is set to entail just yet, the casting of Zendaya — who’s just led her own A24 hit in Kristoffer Borgli’s discourse-stoking The Drama — is something to get stoked for already.
Having cut his directorial teeth on the likes of Ex Machina and Annihilation, Alex Garland has been switching up genre modes in recent years, flitting between war dramas like the above-mentioned Warfare and Civil War, and then more esoteric fare like Men and a writing return to zombie horror with the 28 Years Later movies. As such, the prospect of a proper sci-fi homecoming for Garland is very invigorating indeed. Watch this space for more as shooting gets underway in the coming months…
