‘Elsbeth’ Enters the High Class World of a ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Star in New First Look [Exclusive]

Elsbeth has officially entered the home stretch of Season 3, though CBS’s hit case-of-the-week crime drama isn’t slowing down when it comes to guests. Tonight’s episode will see Beanie Feldstein of Booksmart fame tangle with Carrie Preston after a serial bride is found bludgeoned to death in her apartment. Following that, Episode 16 next week will feature another The Good Wife reunion, with Joanna Gleason among the names coming to the Big Apple, though not in her senior role as Cook County judge Carmella Romano. However, Collider is excited to offer a first look at what lies beyond as the sharp-dressed sleuth digs into the upper crust of New York, where a certain Crazy Rich Asians star is under ponderous suspicion.

Our exclusive images from Episode 17, “High Class Problems,” primarily center on wealth therapist Dr. Mallory Haynes, played by Constance Wu, who becomes the target of Elsbeth’s latest investigation after the sudden death of a billionaire’s son in a motorcycle crash. Though she might not initially seem like the suspect in such a case, she has access to all of her patients’ deepest, darkest secrets, and that knowledge has led to murder. Wu immediately fits right into the world of Elsbeth, seen in one shot accompanying Preston’s detective on the street in a dazzling fur coat. At work, however, she adopts a more earnest, sympathetic demeanor when speaking to her clients that contrasts with her more outward demeanor when out and about.

Wu is yet another major addition to the colorful murder mystery series, and she brings plenty of her own experience on broadcast television to the table. She previously starred in ABC’s sitcom Fresh Off the Boat from 2016 through 2020, and since then, has built a lengthy resume on both the massive and miniature screen, from Hustlers to The Terminal List, The Friend, and Velma. A Crazy Rich Asians sequel has never manifested despite plenty of interest, but even so, she’s kept busy, gearing up for her next role in Mindy Kaling‘s novel comedy series, Not Suitable for Work, premiering on Hulu in June. Not to be lost in the shuffle, Carra Patterson also appears in one image with Wu and Preston. Though she stepped back from series regular duties for Season 3, she’ll make her first guest appearance as Elsbeth’s NYPD bestie, Kaya Blanke, since back in October, reviving their excellent chemistry for this latest case.
